No decision made on kidney re-transplantation on PM: Press Advisor Thapa

KATHMANDU: No decision has been taken on whether Prime Minister KP Oli should undergo a kidney re-transplantation, his Personal Secretariat said on Monday.

Speaking at a press meet organized at prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, Press Advisor to PM Oli, Surya Thapa said that doctors attending to the prime minister are yet to decide on the issues.

“The prime minister is sick and is being treated. News has circulated that discussions are being made to airlift him to the USA,” he said, “No decision to opt for a kidney re-transplantation has been made.”

PM Oli is currently under doctors’ monitoring after being discharged from the Maharajgunj-based Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre on Thursday afternoon after ten days of his admission.

PM Oli, who had gone to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on November 26 for a checkup, underwent an operation for appendicitis the same day after he needed an immediate operation.

He received treatment at the Intensive Care Unit at the center during his stay at the hospital. PM Oli also underwent dialysis for his kidney as the kidney that was transplanted some 12 years ago has stopped functioning properly.

Doctors attending to the prime minister said that he will undergo regular dialyses.
