KOHALPUR: The local administration is mulling to clamp a curfew after a tensed situation that erupted after a school-going girl was severely injured in a road accident on Sunday morning failed to subside.

Assistant Chief District Officer Krishnakanta Upadhyaya said they are thinking of enforcing a curfew as the situation has continued to worsen.

“The situation is worsening. A meeting of security committee will decide on clamping curfew,” he said.

Locals and students took to streets when a truck hit the girl at the local High School Chowk along the Kohalpur-Nepalgunj road this morning. Irate locals torched the truck and obstructed the traffic.

They even hurled stones at the police and smashed the glasses of several vehicles when the latter used force to disperse the protestors and resume the traffic.

Police opened 15 rounds of bullets in air and lobbed teargas canisters to contain the situation but in vain. Scores of protesters and police personnel including DSP Hem Bahadur Shahi have been injured in the clash.
