Student organizations abolished as per election manifesto: Minister Pokharel

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has said that student organizations have been abolished in line with the government’s election manifesto.

Speaking with journalists at Singha Durbar on Friday, the government spokesperson said the decision was based on commitments made during the election, which he claimed were already endorsed by the public.

“As it was clearly mentioned in our election manifesto and already approved by voters during the elections, there is no need for further debate on the issue of not retaining student organizations,” Minister Pokharel said.

The minister also said that concerns over schools charging fees beyond the prescribed limits have been raised, adding that local governments must take the lead in addressing such issues.

He informed that discussions had been held with representatives of municipal associations, the National Association of Rural Municipalities, and the Mayors’ Forum of the Kathmandu Valley regarding complaints of excessive admission and annual fees in schools.

“If assistance from the federal government is needed to implement the standards and regulations, we are ready to support. However, this is primarily the responsibility of local governments. Regulatory bodies must act from their side,” he said.
