CHITWAN: The Nepal Layers’ Poultry Farmers Association is observing World Egg Day this year with a week-long series of programmes aimed at raising public awareness about the nutritional and health benefits of eggs.
World Egg Day falls on October 9 this year, with the theme “Protein that Powers and Protects.”
According to association President Binod Pokharel, awareness programmes are being conducted at schools across the country to educate students and parents about the nutritional value of eggs, their role in maintaining health and their importance as part of a balanced diet.
The association is organising special programmes with support from the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and in collaboration with government and private-sector stakeholders.
An “Egg Walk” will be organised on October 9, starting from the premises of the Chitwan Industries Association and concluding at Shahid Chowk in Narayangarh. The event aims to raise awareness about the nutritional value of eggs, their health benefits and their importance in the daily diet.
A panel discussion involving stakeholders will also be held on the same day. The discussion will cover egg production, nutrition, health, consumption, marketing and the role of eggs in Nepali society.
According to physician Dr Bhojraj Adhikari, one egg contains approximately six grams of high-quality protein, along with essential nutrients such as vitamins A, B and B12. He said egg protein helps build and repair body tissues and muscles and plays an important role in the growth and development of children.
