JUMLA: A total of 8,060 people in Jumla obtained national identity cards during the last fiscal year.
According to Krishna Maya Rokaya, chief of the National Identity Card Section at the District Administration Office, Jumla, the number of people obtaining national identity cards increased significantly in fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
After the government made national identity cards mandatory for accessing services, including social security allowances, 1,461 people have applied for the cards in the first two months of the current fiscal year.
Similarly, 972 people obtained passports in the last fiscal year, while 186 people have received passports during the first two months of the current fiscal year.
Nar Bahadur Budha, chief of the Passport Section at the District Administration Office, said passports of 220 service recipients have been delivered to their homes through the postal service.
The home-delivery service for passports has been in operation since last Baisakh under an agreement between the District Administration Office and the Post Office.
The government is expanding the postal service as a government courier service to deliver public services to citizens’ doorsteps.
