KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to hear a habeas corpus petition filed against the arrest of KP Sharma Oli, chair of UML, today.
The petition was filed on Sunday by his wife Radhika Shakya. Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala said the hearing has been scheduled for today.
The petition claims that the decision to arrest and detain Oli solely on the basis of a report prepared by an investigation commission is unlawful.
It argues that detaining an individual merely on the basis of recommendations or reports from an inquiry body does not meet the legal standards for arrest.
Former prime minister Oli was arrested on Saturday on charges of suppressing the Gen Z protests.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep Oli in custody for five days for investigation.
