KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal on Tuesday continued hearing a writ petition challenging the decision to withdraw organized crime and money laundering charges filed alongside the cooperative fraud case against Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
A joint bench of justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel has been conducting a continuous hearing on the writ since Sunday.
The case was kept for further hearing after the arguments presented on Sunday and Monday could not be concluded.
Earlier on Poush 30, Sabita Bhandari had instructed the district government attorneys’ offices to withdraw the charges of organized crime and money laundering against Lamichhane in cases pending in different districts.
The decision triggered legal challenges, with separate writ petitions filed at the Supreme Court by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, law student Ayush Badal, and Yuvraj Paudel Safal.
The court’s ruling on the petitions will determine whether the directive issued by the Office of the Attorney General to drop the charges against Lamichhane will remain in effect or be annulled.
