Over 10,000 votes invalid in Dang during House election count

KATHMANDU: More than 10,000 votes have been declared invalid in Dang District during the vote count of the House of Representatives of Nepal elections held on March 5.

Out of a total of 251,368 votes cast across the district’s three constituencies, 10,698 votes were invalidated during the counting process.

According to information officer Gehendra Kunwar of the Lumbini Province Election Office, Dang, the invalid vote rate in the district stands at 4.25 percent.

The highest number of invalid votes was recorded in constituency-1, where 4,057 votes were invalid out of 80,446 votes cast.

Similarly, in constituency-3, 3,776 votes were invalid out of 88,617 votes cast, while constituency-2 recorded 2,865 invalid votes out of 82,305 total votes.

However, the number of invalid votes has decreased compared to the previous election. In the 2022 Nepalese general election, a total of 14,709 votes were invalid out of 414,956 votes cast in the district, accounting for 5.92 percent.

Kunwar said the decline may be due to fewer complications related to election symbols, which previously occurred when parties contested under electoral alliances. However, he noted that the reduction is not significantly large.
