KATHMANDU: Six gamblers who had filed a habeas corpus petition claiming their detention to be illegal have to spend a few more days in police custody.
Six out of 25 gamblers arrested from a ‘VIP’ gambling den in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Saturday morning had moved the Supreme Court (SC).
Following a preliminary hearing on Sunday, the apex court had ordered police to produce them before the court within 24 hours.
They were presented before the court at around 2 pm today. But, the court didn’t issue any order citing lack of time. The court asked the police to present them before the court on Wednesday.
A police squad from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj had arrested 25 gamblers and confiscated Rs 2.67 million stake money from them from a house Bikram Gautam at Pipalmarga of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3.
