Nepali Congress postpones regular general convention

LALITPUR: Nepali Congress General Secretaries Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Gagan Kumar Thapa have announced the postponement of the party’s regular general convention.

In a statement issued by the two general secretaries, it is said that the regular general convention, whose schedule was fixed by the Central Working Committee on Mangsir 15, has been postponed due to delays in revising the proposed timetable and in completing other related tasks.

So far, the renewal of 579,395 active memberships has been completed, while the party expects the total number to exceed 600,000 once the process is finalized in the remaining districts. During this period, 195,737 new memberships have also been registered.

The statement notes that the regular general convention was given priority as an alternative to the special general convention demanded through signatures by 54 percent of representatives.

However, as the regular general convention is unlikely to be held on time, the possibility of proceeding with a special general convention remains open.

It further states that, in accordance with Article 17(2) of the party statute, preparations are underway to move forward with all processes related to a special general convention through consensus.
