Health camp provides winter care to residents of Upper Mustang

MUSTANG: Residents of Upper Mustang have benefited from a health camp organized to support those braving the harsh winter conditions in the region.

The camp provided health services to people still residing in Namasung and Nyanol villages of Lomanthang-2 in Mustang despite the extreme cold. While most residents of Upper Mustang migrate to lower areas during winter to escape freezing temperatures, some households with no alternatives remain in the upper belt throughout the season.

Considering the needs of such families, the health camp was jointly organized by the Area Conservation Office of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Lomanthang, the Armed Police Force Border Outpost, and the Police Post at Chhoser.

ACAP Lomanthang Chief Umesh Paudel said the camp aimed primarily to raise awareness about cold-related health risks and preventive measures to stay warm. He noted that residents are particularly vulnerable to ailments such as the common cold, fever, and cough during winter. Participants received general health check-ups and were provided medicines free of charge.

A total of 22 people, 19 women and three men, benefited from the health camp.
