Free tests provided to 450 people at heart disease treatment camp

PARBAT: A one-day heart disease screening and treatment camp held on Saturday at Thulipokhari, Kushma Municipality–12, provided free medical tests to around 450 people.

The camp was organised by Kushma Basic Hospital, Thulipokhari, with technical support from Save the Heart and Nepal Cardio. According to Ward Chair of Kushma Municipality–12, Jhalak Rimal, five patients with complex heart conditions were referred to Kathmandu for surgery.

The program was organised to address heart-related health problems among rural residents who often struggle to access treatment due to financial constraints. Patients from Kushma, Phalebas Municipality, Modi Rural Municipality, and neighbouring areas of Syangja district participated in the camp.

A medical team led by senior cardiologist Dr Anil Bhattarai, along with Dr Suman Adhikari, Dr Sutap Yadav, Bodhraj Gautam and others, provided services. The camp offered free heart consultations, ECG and echocardiography tests, and distributed medicines at no cost.

Local resident Ramesh Poudel said the camp provided major relief to patients who would otherwise have to spend hundreds of thousands of rupees on treatment. He added that the poor, Dalits and elderly residents benefited the most from the initiative.
