Landslide blocks Beni–Jomsom road

POKHARA: A landslide has blocked the Beni–Jomsom road section of the Kaligandaki Corridor connecting Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi, with Mustang.

Traffic was disrupted after a landslide struck the road at Baisari in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 this afternoon, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Karki of the District Police Office, Myagdi.

“While efforts were underway to clear the debris, another landslide occurred and buried an excavator. The road is now completely blocked,” he said.

He added that work to remove the landslide has begun, but regular traffic is unlikely to resume soon because of the large volume of debris.

Traffic movement on the road section had already been restricted since Sunday night. Following a decision of the District Security Committee, vehicular movement has been prohibited from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am on both Sunday and Monday.

Hundreds of passengers and tourists use the Beni–Jomsom route to travel to Muktinath and onward to Korala border point.
