Current government will continue until elections: PM Oli
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has affirmed that the current government will continue its tenure confidently until the next elections. Speaking at a program in Kankai Municipality, Jhapa, on Saturday, where land ownership certificates were distributed to landless Dalits, squatters, and unorganized settlers, PM Oli stated that the government is committed to bringing about significant change. “Let those predicting the fall of this government keep doing so — one year has already passed,” Oli said.
Former Election Commissioner Ila Sharma passes away
Former Election Commissioner and journalist Ila Sharma has passed away following a heart attack. According to former journalist Amrita Lamsal, Sharma died this evening at Norvic Hospital. His funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. Sharma had a long career with The Rising Nepal and was known for his contributions to journalism and public service. He is survived by two daughters.
Jhala Nath Khanal welcomes Bidya Bhandari’s potential political comeback
Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhala Nath Khanal, has welcomed the possibility of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari returning to active politics within the CPN-UML if it serves the cause of unifying Nepal’s leftist forces.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Dallu on Saturday following his recent visit to China, Khanal stated that the CPN-UML remains the largest left-wing force in the country, and if Bhandari’s re-entry into its political fold is aimed at fostering left unity, “it should be taken as a positive development.”
FIFA lifts funding ban on ANFA
FIFA has lifted its long-standing control funding restriction on the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), ending a four-year period of financial oversight that began in March 2021. The ban was originally imposed by FIFA over concerns of financial irregularities and a lack of transparency within ANFA. Under the restrictions, FIFA withheld direct access to its financial grants and instead controlled and monitored the disbursement of funds to Nepal’s football governing body. However, during a meeting of FIFA’s Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC) held this past Thursday, the committee officially lifted the sanctions.
EVs awaiting clearance washed away in Rasuwa flood
Several vehicles, including newly imported electric vehicles (EVs), were swept away by a massive flood in the Lhende River at the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa district on July 8.
The flood struck the customs yard where the vehicles, mostly EVs brought from China, were parked, awaiting customs clearance. Many of the vehicles that were not swept away were left submerged in mud and debris.
Two dead, six injured in accident in Baitadi
Two people were killed and six others injured in an SUV accident in Baitadi district on Friday morning.
The SUV (registration number: SuPra 04 001 J 1372), which was en route from Dhangadhi to Ganna in Darchula, skidded off the road and plunged nearly 70 meters down at Khirpali in Patan-6.

PM Oli arrives in Jhapa for two-day visit
CPN-UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli arrived in his home district of Jhapa on Saturday for a two-day visit to attend various programs in Jhapa and Ilam districts. He was welcomed at Chandragadhi Airport at 11 AM by UML Koshi Province In-Charge Sherdhan Rai, Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki, UML Koshi Province Chairperson Ghanshyam Khatiwada, and other party leaders.
Preliminary Report: Fuel switches cut-off before Air India crash killing 260
A preliminary investigation into last month’s Air India crash reveals that both fuel control switches were set to the cut-off position—an action that typically shuts down the engines—just moments before the plane went down, according to BBC.
The cockpit voice recorder captured confusion between the two pilots. One pilot asks the other why he “did the cut-off,” while the second denies having done so, according to the report.
An Air India spokesperson stated that the airline is continuing to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar stranded after Nepal-China Miteri Bridge washed away
Pilgrims traveling to Kailash Mansarovar have been left stranded after the Nepal-China Miteri Bridge was swept away by floods in the Lhende River on Tuesday morning, according to the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN).
TAAN General Secretary Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa said the collapse of the bridge has severely disrupted the movement of both Nepali and foreign pilgrims traveling via road from Rasuwagadhi to the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
Residents along lower Mahakali River urged to remain vigilant
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged residents living along the lower coastal areas of the Mahakali River to remain alert as the river’s water level is expected to rise significantly.
The warning comes after India’s Dhauliganga Hydropower Project announced that it will open the gates of its dam from midnight on Friday until 12 noon on Saturday.
Five wards of Bhimdutta municipality get rescue materials
Bhimdutta municipality in the district has distributed rescue equipment to its five wards which are vulnerable to disaster.
The Forest, Environment and Disaster Management Committee of the municipality on Friday distributed rescue materials like life jackets, belts, rubber tubes, torchlight, helmets and stretchers to ward no 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, said Committee Coordinator Prakash Thapa.
One woman dies in wild elephant attack in Banke
A woman died after a wild elephant attack in Banke. Purnima Budha, 45, a resident of Baijnath-1, Chisapani, was killed in the incident, according to the District Police Office, Banke.
Budha and two other local women went into the forest near Bardiya National Park to cut grass. The elephant attacked them, resulting in Budha’s death on Friday.
NASA to broadcast Axiom Mission 4 departure on July 14
NASA has announced that it will broadcast the departure of the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) crew from the International Space Station (ISS) live on July 14.
Among the crew members returning is Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to visit the ISS, who served as the pilot for the private space mission.
The Ax-4 team, which includes NASA veteran Commander Peggy Whitson, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland, and Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu under the Hungarian to Orbit (HUNOR) program, will undock from the ISS aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.
Embankment project completed at a cost of Rs 36.5 million
Embankment projects have been completed at four locations in Myagdi district at a total cost of Rs 36.5 million to control river erosion and flooding. Under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Pokhara constructed embankments and composite walls at Darwang, Tatopani, Singa, and Lamgara in the current fiscal year 2025/26.
Project engineer Narjung Gurung informed that the works aimed to protect riverbanks and nearby settlements from water-induced disasters.

Hemophilia patients in Tulsipur, Dang, are calling on the authorities to ensure local availability of critical medicines, especially the lifesaving injection known as Factor, which is essential to prevent life-threatening bleeding episodes.
Ram Bahadur Dahit of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-7, along with three of his brothers, suffers from hemophilia, a rare genetic disorder that impairs the blood’s ability to clot.
Nepal hosts trade and investment promotion event in Chengdu
The Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu, China, organized a “Trade and Investment Promotion Dialogue” on Thursday in an effort to enhance economic engagement between Nepal and China.
The event was attended by key provincial officials including Li Huaiqiang, Deputy Director General of the Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, and Wu Ge, Deputy Director General of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce. PM Oli inaugurates Bhagiratha Buddhashanti Hospital in Jhapa
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today inaugurated the newly constructed Bhagiratha Neupane Buddhashanti Hospital at Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3 in Jhapa district.
Built at a cost of Rs 65 million, the 10-bed hospital was established on 15 katthas of land donated by the children of Bhagiratha Neupane, Nepal’s first woman pradhanpanch, in her memory. Neupane had served as the pradhanpanch of the then Budhabare Village Panchayat.
Administrative building completed at a cost of Rs 23 million in Aiselukharka
Aiselukharka Rural Municipality on Khotang has officially begun service delivery from its newly completed administrative building, ending its reliance on rented premises since its establishment.
The new building was inaugurated by Rural Municipality Chairperson Girendra Bahadur Rai. Previously, the office operated from a rented local house at an annual cost of Rs 468,000 including taxes.
Bhaktapur declared fully immunized district
Bhaktapur has been officially declared a fully immunized district.
The announcement was made during a special program organized by the District Immunization Coordination Committee in Suryabinayak, where Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa presented the official certificate of full immunization assurance and sustainability.
