KATHMANDU: Approximately 96.85 percent of the country’s population has access to basic drinking water facilities, according to the Economic Survey presented by the government.
Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel presented the survey in today’s session of the Federal Parliament. The survey states that access to basic drinking water reached this level by the end of Falgun, 2081 (mid-March 2025).
Similarly, 28.50 percent of the population had access to safe drinking water services by the same period, compared to 96.75 percent and 27.76 percent respectively as of Asar 2081 (mid-July 2024).
A total of 17 drinking water projects were completed by Falgun of the current fiscal year, providing an additional 205,569 people with access to drinking water services during this period.
Additionally, rainwater harvesting technology has been installed at 400 locations, including 265 government schools, 46 government buildings, and 89 public buildings within Kathmandu Valley, according to the survey.
