Monsoon likely to be active for another three days

KATHMANDU: The duration of monsoon is likely to get extended in Nepal as the axis of monsoon trough has slightly shifted towards south from the average location, the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

Meteorologist Shanti Kandel said the low-pressure system has been developed in the northwest part of Madhya Pradesh and southern part of Uttar Pradesh, India, showing the possibility of more rain in the country. It means that the duration of monsoon will be more than average.

However, the chance of heavy rainfall is less likely. The country will see light to moderate rain for a brief time.
Tonight the weather will be generally to mostly cloudy in the eastern and central regions and partly to generally cloudy in the western region with chances of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at some places of the eastern and central regions and at a few places of the western region.

On Monday, it will be generally cloudy across the country with light to moderate thundershowers at some places and heavy rain at one or two places of the eastern hilly region, the Division said in its weather forecasting bulletin for next 24 hours.

The risk of landslide in hilly districts and an increase in water level in rivers could not be ruled out in this period and people have been urged to remain watchful about this possibility.
