UML MP questions Prachanda’s role in monarchist resurgence

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Gokarna Bista has raised suspicions about opposition leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ potentially supporting monarchist activities.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Bista, who is also a UML secretary, questioned whether Prachanda had close ties with intermediaries fueling the royalist movement.

“The opposition leader keeps labeling the government’s efforts unconstitutional. But was Nepal a utopia during his seven-eight months as prime minister? Why does he suddenly see everything as a disaster after stepping down?” Bista asked.

He accused Prachanda of making statements that demoralize the country and embolden reactionary forces. “Is he indirectly aiding former King Gyanendra’s resurgence? This deserves a serious review,” he added.

Bista further criticized the tendency of leaders to speak differently in power versus in opposition and urged opposition parties to act responsibly.
