DHANGADHI: A state-of-the-art assembly hall has officially come into operation in Dhangadhi, the temporary capital of Sudurpashchim Province. Built with a federal investment of Rs 320.25 million, the facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday.

PM Oli, who was in Dhangadhi to attend the fifth convocation ceremony of Sudurpashchim University and deliver a special address at the provincial assembly, also inaugurated the newly constructed assembly hall.

Located in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-8, the facility is the first of its kind in the city.

Constructed by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction  under the Federal Project Implementation Unit, Dhangadhi, the assembly hall was handed over to Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City during the inauguration.

PM Oli officially transferred the facility to Mayor Gopal Hamal.

Previously, the lack of an assembly hall in Dhangadhi meant that large-scale events had to be held in hotel conference rooms.

The new venue is expected to significantly ease the organization of major gatherings, seminars, and conferences.

Speaking at the event, PM Oli highlighted the hall as evidence of the country’s ongoing development.

“For those who claim nothing is happening in Nepal, this assembly hall stands as proof of progress,” he said. “Dhangadhi has received a valuable gift, make the best use of it for conferences and seminars.”

The project was initiated under the Oli-led government, with the Ministry of Urban Development signing the construction agreement on January 16, 2019.

The construction was completed on July 8, 2022, after which the facility was handed over to the ministry.

The assembly hall (City Hall), built by BKY MK Royal JV, spans one bigha of land. The main hall has a seating capacity of 753 people, while a secondary training hall can accommodate 210 people.

The facility includes parking space for 46 cars and 98 motorcycles, a dedicated dining area for VIPs, administrative offices, changing rooms, and a VIP lounge. It is considered one of the most well-equipped halls in the Sudurpashchim Province.
