Tributes paid to Gandaki lawmaker Bimala Gauchan



KASKI: Tributes were paid to Gandaki Province MP Bimala Gauchan today by draping her body with the national flag.

Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, and Provincial Assembly Deputy Speaker, Binakumari Thapa, draped the national flag over Gauchan’s body during a ceremony held at the Provincial Assembly premises in Nadipur, Pokhara. Her body was placed at the assembly grounds for the tribute.

Nepali Congress Gandaki Province President, Shukraraj Sharma, honored her by placing the party flag over her body. The Thakali Service Committee also paid tribute following their traditional practices.

The ceremony was attended by Gandaki Province ministers, assembly members, political party leaders, civil servants, security personnel, leaders of the Thakali community, relatives, and well-wishers.

Born on July 2, 1961 (2018 Ashar 18 BS) in Kobang, Mustang, Gauchan’s family currently resides in Myagdi. She passed away on November 13, 2023 (Kartik 28), during treatment in Kathmandu.

Gauchan was elected as a proportional representation member of the Provincial Assembly in the 2022 elections from the Nepali Congress. She also served as a member of the Provincial Assembly’s Finance and Development Committee.

In addition to politics, Gauchan was actively involved in various social and business sectors. Her funeral will be held in Myagdi, according to her family. She is survived by a son and a daughter.
