Ministry of Education urges three-day school closure

KATHMANDU: The government has instructed local authorities to close schools for three days starting Sunday.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology made this request following an emergency meeting on Saturday, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Prakashman Singh.

The meeting emphasized the need for active participation from the government, non-governmental organizations, and civil society in disaster management efforts.

Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry, released a statement highlighting that the decision to close schools was prompted by damage to educational institutions across the country, as well as the impact of floods and landslides on students and parents.

Additionally, disruptions in traffic and daily life contributed to the decision.
