Simaltal landslide update: Search operation for two missing buses resumes from early morning
Search operations for the two buses that went missing in the Trishuli River following a landslide on the Narayangadh-Muglin road in Simaltal, Chitwan, has resumed from early morning today. Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Indradev Yadav, stated that the search restarted today after failing to locate the buses on Friday. Efforts to locate the two buses, which were carrying passengers, were suspended on Friday evening. Despite searches conducted from early morning on Friday, the buses remained missing by evening, leading to the suspension of the search efforts. During the search operation, a team of divers retrieved a curtain from one of the buses from the river. CDO Yadav mentioned that a curtain and a pair of trousers attached to Angel Deluxe bus were recovered using hooks on Friday.
President Paudel urges to develop Chundiramgha as a literary pilgrimage
President Ramchandra Paudel has said that Chundiramgha, the birthplace of Bhanubhakta Acharya, should be developed as a literary pilgrimage site and a center of national unity. The Head of the State mentioned that linguistic unity has been established among all Nepali language speakers around the world with the contribution of pioneer Nepali poet Bhanubhakta. In a message of greetings today on the occasion of the 211th birth anniversary of Aadikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, President Paudel has mentioned that the Balmeeki Ramayan, translated into Nepali language by Aadikavi Bhanubhakta in a lucid, polite and interesting way played an important role in enhancing emotional unity among all Nepalis living in mountains, hills and Tarai region.
Kaligandaki Corridor remains blocked for three days
The Kaligandaki Corridor remains blocked for traffic for the past three days. The corridor has been blocked at difference places due to landslides triggered by monsoon rain. District Police Office Baglung Police Inspector Basant Bhujel said that although machines and workers have been deployed for clearing the road continuous rainfall has hampered the effort. “Landslides occur as soon as it rains and the retaining wall swept away by landslides remains to be built,” he said. As a result, travelers have suffered while farmers have not been able to bring their produce including to the market.
Commercial banks earn nearly Rs 56.5 billion in profit over 11 months
Over the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, from mid-July 2023 to mid-May 2024, commercial banks have earned nearly Rs 56.5 billion in profit. Twenty commercial banks collectively made Rs 56.48 billion in profit during this period. Nabil Bank earned the highest profit, totaling Rs 6.37 billion. Global IME Bank and Nepal Investment Bank followed with profits of Rs 5.09 billion and Rs 4.38 billion, respectively.
Rohit Chand Signs third consecutive season with Indonesian Club Persik
Rohit Chand will play his third consecutive season with Indonesian club Persik Kediri. The top-division Indonesian football club has extended its contract with Rohit for the third season. Body of passenger who fell into Trishuli found in Narayani
A body has been found in the Narayani River at Golaghat, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-28, Chitwan. On Friday, amidst ongoing search efforts for passengers of the two buses that plunged into the Trishuli River at Simaltal, a male body was discovered in the middle of the Narayani River. According to Chitwan Police Chief SP Bhavesh Rimal, locals spotted the body floating in the river and informed the police. The body is reported to be of a man aged around 30-35 years. An ATM card from Global IME Bank bearing the name Rishi Pal Sah was found in the deceased’s purse.
New alliance of UML and NC demand resignation of Sudurpaschim CM Sodari
The CPN-UML, Nepali Congress (NC), and Nagarik Unmukti Party have collectively called for the resignation of Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari. At a joint press conference held in Dhangadi today, leaders from these parties urged CM Sodari to step down. Kamal Bahadur Shah, the NC parliamentary party leader in the province, stated, “With the formation of a new alliance, CM Sodari has already lost his majority in the provincial assembly. Even if he attempts a floor test, he will fail.”
New ministers to be sworn in along with Prime Minister: NC Spokesperson Mahat
New ministers will be appointed and sworn in alongside the new Prime Minister, according to Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat. After attending the Central Working Executive Committee meeting of the party on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Mahat stated that preparations are underway to swear in the ministers once the Prime Minister is appointed. President Ram Chandra Paudel is set to appoint CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli as the Prime Minister on Sunday, following submissions from CPN-UML and Nepali Congress with MP signatures under Article 76 of the Constitution.
Two more bodies recovered from Narayani river, suspected victims of Trishuli landslide
Two more bodies, suspected to be victims of the Trishuli landslide, have been recovered from the Narayani river bank. On Friday morning, two passenger buses were swept away by a landslide into the river. Of the two bodies recovered, one was found floating in the river while the other was buried in sand, according to the police. DSP Beshraj Rijal of the District Police Office in Chitwan stated that the bodies were discovered during the search operation. The identities of the deceased are yet to be determined.
HoR and NA meetings postponed to Monday
The meetings of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly (NA) initially scheduled for Sunday have been postponed to Monday. According to the Parliament Secretariat, the HoR meeting, which was set for 3 pm Sunday, will now be held at 1 pm on Monday due to unspecified reasons. Similarly, the NA meeting scheduled for 1:15 pm Sunday has been rescheduled to 11:30 am Monday.
Loktantrik Samajbadi Party to join new govt; Chair Thakur to select ministers
The Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) has decided to join the government to be formed under the leadership of CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli. Oli has staked his claim to the post of Prime Minister with the support of the Nepali Congress after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal failed to secure a confidence vote on Friday. A meeting of the LSP parliamentary party held on Saturday decided to join the new government and assigned the responsibility of selecting ministers from the party to Chairman Mahantha Thakur, according to party whip Ram Prakash Chaudhary.
Nepali Congress sets criteria for ministerial selection
The Central Work Performance Committee of the Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to set criteria for selecting ministers for the new government. During a meeting chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the committee determined that the criteria will include geographical representation, provincial and inclusive balance, qualifications, and contributions. The party is currently preparing for the allocation of ministerial responsibilities and the upcoming swearing-in ceremony for the Prime Minister and ministers. The meeting also formally agreed to join the next government, according to party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.
