One killed, six injured in explosion at distillery in Rautahat



KATHMANDU: One person has been killed and six others injured in an explosion at a distillery in Rautahat district.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning when a water-heating container exploded at Jyoti Distillery located in Katahariya Municipality–9. Police said the blast claimed the life of a local worker on the spot.

According to the Area Police Office, Katahariya, the deceased has been identified as around 40-year-old Laxman Yadav of Katahariya–9. He died at the scene due to the impact of the explosion.

Six other workers were injured in the incident. Some of the injured, who are reported to be in serious condition, have been referred to Birgunj for further treatment, while others are receiving care at local hospitals.

Former minister and former Rautahat lawmaker Prabhu Sah has alleged negligence on the part of the mill operator and demanded an investigation into the incident.

In a Facebook post, Sah expressed condolences to the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, while calling for a fair investigation and compensation for the victims.
