SYDNEY: The election to elect the new leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia Chapter held last month has run into legal troubles.

Contestants and voters have accused that the election was not held as per the statute, rules were flouted, carelessness was done in preserving confidential data of members and the leadership showed an irresponsible behavior.

In a legal letter written to Chairman of NRNA, Australia Tonu Ghotane, the organization has been accused of being deviated from its main aim and getting focused on political, religious and other areas.

Serious accusations have been made being careless in protecting phone number of NRNA members, medicare cards and emails among other confidential information. As per the existing laws, an organization is responsible for securing such confidential information.

An NRNA member told Khabarhub that they were forced to seek legal remedy as the leadership not heeded their concerns and came up with an irresponsible answer to their worries. He further accused the organization of suppressing their voices since long and operating the organization as a private organization.

Local Nepal media stated that NRNA has been chalking out future course upon receiving the legal letter.

NRNA members had received an SMS asking to vote for the panel of Presidential Candidate Keshav Kandel while the election process was in a full swing last month. Members were shocked upon receiving an SMS from a not well-known candidate.

The election committee has been denying any misdoings. However, people close to the developments say confidential information of the members was leaked from within NRNA.
