24 artifacts shipped to Nepal from Hawaii



KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Washington, DC, USA, has facilitated the return of 24 artifacts to the Department of Archaeology in Nepal. A

ccording to a press release from the Embassy, these artifacts were received from Ms. Susan Bradford on April 19, 2024, in Maui, Hawaii, and were subsequently sent to Nepal on May 2.

Second Secretary Uttam Ghimire received the artifacts on behalf of the Embassy in Maui, Hawaii.

The artifacts, once part of Ms. Bradford’s private collection, include pieces dating back to the 13th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

The Embassy expressed its gratitude to Ms. Bradford for voluntarily returning these valuable artifacts to the Government of Nepal.

Ms. Bradford herself sponsored the shipping of the artifacts to Nepal, demonstrating her commitment to preserving cultural heritage.

This initiative is part of the Embassy’s broader efforts to recover and repatriate lost and stolen art heritage of Nepal.

The Embassy has collaborated with various agencies of the Government of Nepal and the United States, as well as art researchers, heritage recovery campaigners, media, and private individuals.

With the addition of these 24 artifacts, the Embassy has successfully repatriated a total of 63 artifacts to Nepal within the span of a year, as stated in the press release.
