Police makes place in final, defeats Gandaki by six wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club secured a spot in the final by defeating Gandaki Province by six wickets in the Prime Minister Cup One-Day National Cricket Tournament.

This victory marks the seventh consecutive win for the departmental team of the police, making them the first team to qualify for the final.

Chasing a target of 171 runs for victory, Nepal Police Club successfully achieved the target in 24.2 overs, losing four wickets in the process.

In their victory, Dilip Nath played a crucial role, scoring the highest with 57 runs, including 39 balls, six fours, and four sixes. Kushal Bhurtel contributed 22 runs with four fours and one six.

Arjun Saud scored 44 runs off 49 balls with five fours and one six before getting out, while Aarif Sheikh made 27 runs with five fours.

Gandaki’s Sandeep Parajuli took 2 wickets by spending 21 runs in 6.2 overs, while Vipin Khatri and Kamal Pariyar claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, Gandaki Province, batting first, was bowled out for 170 runs in 38.3 overs.

Amrit Gurung was the top scorer for Gandaki with 50 runs, including 39 balls, eight fours, and two sixes.

However, other batters failed to make significant contributions. Kamal Pariyar took two wickets, while Samir Kandel and Rashid Khan claimed two wickets each for Nepal Police.

With this win, Nepal Police Club is leading the points table with 14 points in 7 matches.

Bagmati is in second place with 6 wins and 3 losses, Madhes is in third place with 6 wins and 3 losses, and Army is in fourth place with 5 wins and 2 losses.

The top two teams will face off in the final, with Nepal Police Club securing a place in the final as the second-placed team will likely be Army due to their strong performance.
