Gold Smuggling Case: Investigation Commission initiates task on Monday

KATHMANDU: The commission of inquiry formed to investigate the gold smuggling case commenced its task on Monday.

A four-member inquiry commission was established yesterday, under the coordination of former high court judge Dilliram Acharya. The Commission is mandated to submit a report with recommendations.

Other members of the commission include Former Home Ministry Joint Secretary Premraj Joshi, Finance Ministry Joint Secretary Kishorejung Karki, and former AIG Sahakul Thapa.

The Commission has been given a three-month timeframe for the investigation. Recently, smugglers have been using Nepal as a transit point for gold smuggling, employing various methods at different times.

Notably, on July 18, more than 61 kg of gold, which had passed through customs, was seized from Sinamangal by the Revenue Investigation Department.

The Commission will also investigate the nine kilograms of gold smuggled in vape devices.
