AANFSU demands repeal of hike in Class 11 and 12’s fees

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), Nepal Communist Party’s student wing, has demanded with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to roll back its decision to hike Grade 11 and 12 tuition fees.

The student leaders led by ANNFSU’s acting Coordinator Ranjit Tamang handed over a five-point memorandum to Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokharel at his office in Singha Durbar today, demanding repeal of the recent hike in the fees done without meeting the criteria set by the government.

The memo demands scholarships up to 20 percent of the total students in private schools. They also pressed for impartial, free and fair selection of candidates for the scholarships provided by the local government units.

Similarly, the student leaders drew the attention of Minister Pokharel towards revising the related Acts and appointing the Campus Chiefs through open competition rather than political recommendations.

Likewise, they underlined the need to penalize those office-bearers and staffers in the universities and colleges who were maligning the image of the government universities and campuses.

Minister Pokharel, in response, pledged to address the genuine demands of the student leaders.
