CHITWAN: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha has expressed concern over the obstruction of Parliament caused by calls for the Prime Minister’s resignation.
During a program in Chitwan on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha emphasized that demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister, who holds a majority in Parliament, and obstructing parliamentary proceedings goes against established parliamentary norms.
“Engaging in campaigning activities outside the Parliament can be seen as a separate matter, but obstructing parliamentary proceedings by demanding the resignation of a Prime Minister who has been elected by a majority goes against the established norms of parliamentary democracy,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha expressed his hope that opposition parties would cooperate in conducting the Parliament smoothly, without resorting to obstructionist tactics such as demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation.
Shrestha’s remarks come at a time when the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” due to what the party considers an “irresponsible” statement.
“PM Dahal is elected from the parliament in the democratic governance system as per the Constitution,” Home Minister Shrestha argued, adding they were ready to accept the constitution-stipulated option.
On a different note, he also stated that through the ordinance against the loan-sharks was nullified, the task of dispensing justice to the victims would continue.
Minister Shrestha added, “The bill replacing the ordinance should have been enacted by the parliament on Wednesday. The ordinance has come to a null and void since yesterday when the bill was not enacted by the parliament. But, justice to loan sharking survivors would continue.”
During a book release event on Sunday, Prime Minister Dahal made remarks implying that Sardar Pritam Singh had made multiple visits to Delhi in an alleged effort to secure the position of Prime Minister for Dahal.
On a different note, Home Minister Shrestha emphasized that cases of corruption are not pursued based on political affiliation or ideology.
He stated, “The police have been given clear instructions to work independently, free from any pressure or influence.”
