District Election Offices will remain as it is: Finance Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat clarified that the election offices set up in the districts to undertake election-related affairs would remain as it is.

Delivering his remarks in the second meeting of the House of Representatives after obtaining time from the Speaker of the House today, Minister Dr Mahat said, “All the district election offices are in the district as it is. Those offices will continue to function as usual. I request you all not to cast any doubt on it.”

The Minister clarified the concerns of the parliamentarians regarding whether the government would influence the district election offices that were mostly set up in the building of the district administrative offices.

Stating that the incumbent government had upheld the ideal that the elections must be held as per the democratic values and in a fearless environment, the Finance Minister reminded that the Constitution of Nepal had acknowledged the Election Commission of Nepal as the constitutional body.
