Nationwide public awareness against VAW: NWC Chair Parajuli

KATHMANDU: The National Women’s Commission (NWC) has informed that public awareness and monitoring of violence against women (VAW) were continued across the country.

In response to the queries made by lawmakers in the committee on women and social affairs of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Chairwoman of the National Women’s Commission, Kamala Kumari Parajuli, said the awareness and monitoring works were going on in most of the districts, including that of Sudurpaschim and Karnali Provinces.

“NWC is not limited to federal capital but has reached its activities across the country. In the ongoing fiscal year alone, all districts of Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province were monitored on the incidents of violence against women. Even the offices as one-door crises management center, district police office, and safe housing were monitored by NWC teams.

Similarly, Secretary at NWC Kamal Bahadur Rajlabat informed the committee of NWC’s jurisdiction, programs, and success stories. He also shed light on the challenges and future plans of the NWC.

The NWC was established with the aim of women’s empowerment by protecting and promoting their rights and mainstreaming their agenda in the national mechanisms.
Since its establishment, it is actively promoting gender equality, women empowerment, and the elimination of violence against women.

Similarly, it adopts a collaborative approach to observe various programs relating to women’s rights as a 16-Day campaign against VAW, National Women’s Rights Day, International Women Day, etc.

NWC receives complaints on VAW round the clock.
