Three major parties agree on parliamentary committee leadership

KATHMANDU: Major three political parties in the parliament– CPN-Maoist Center, Nepali Congress (NC), and CPN-UML–have reached a consensus on the allocation of parliamentary committee leadership.

According to UML leader Subas Nembang, a meeting with the Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and UML Chairman KP Oli and the chief whips of the three parties held in Baluwatar on Sunday agreed on the leadership of the parliamentary committee.

Nembang, who is also the deputy leader of the parliamentary party, said that the committee for UML to lead has been decided.

“According to the previous agreement, UML has agreed that UML will get public accounting, state directive principles, policies and responsibilities, and another committee. The rest of the committee will be divided by the ruling party,” he said, adding “We have been flexible on this. Earlier, we had made it easier for the ruling party in the meeting relating to the Constitutional Council.”

Nembang also informed that the ruling party and the opposition have basically agreed to work consensually in the effective running of the parliament.

As per the consensus made in Baluwatar on Sunday, the name of the committee heads will be decided today.

UML parliamentary party deputy leader Subas Nembang, NC vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka, and Maoist Center whip Hitraj Pandey also participated in the meeting.
