Eight highways disrupted by floods and landslides as monsoon rains continue

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has disrupted traffic on eight highways across the country due to floods and landslides, while the previously blocked Hulaki Highway has reopened.

According to Nepal Police Headquarters, the Postal Highway section at Dhedhu Khola and other seasonal streams in Thori Rural Municipality-2 of Parsa resumed full operation on Tuesday afternoon after floodwaters receded.

Police said traffic remains completely suspended along the BP Highway between Khurkot, Nepalthok, and Katunjebesi in Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli.

The Kantilokpath road section has also been fully blocked since Monday after landslides triggered by heavy rainfall struck three locations—Pangdur, Takurche, and Bhalu Khola—in Bagmati Rural Municipality-3 of Lalitpur.

The Mechi Highway remains closed after rainfall turned the road muddy at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9, making it impassable for vehicles. Police said an alternative route is available.

Similarly, the Pokhara-Tangting road section has been blocked since July 11 after the collapse of a gabion wall supporting the road in Madi Rural Municipality-2 of Kaski.

The Saljhandi-Dhorpatan road has also been closed after rocks fell onto the roadway at Dhungekhola in Panini Rural Municipality-2 of Arghakhanchi on Sunday.

The Kaligandaki Corridor remains blocked after water levels in Patukhola rose and inundated the road at Purtighat in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-4 of Gulmi.

Traffic has also been disrupted on the Mid-Hill Highway after mud, landslide debris, and floodwater from the Madi River blocked the road near Bhaise in Madi Rural Municipality-4 of Kaski.

Meanwhile, the Ridi-Wami road has been completely blocked after the swollen Thado Giru Khola washed away part of the road at Tallo Phant in Musikot Municipality-5 of Gulmi on Tuesday morning.
