KATHMANDU: The government has launched a bus service to ensure that the education of students staying in holding centers for displaced landless squatters is not disrupted.
Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said two buses began operating on Tuesday for students staying at the holding centers in Kharipati and Bode, Bhaktapur.
“We have arranged bus services to ensure students can continue attending school until the issue is resolved. The buses will transport students to their respective schools and bring them back to the holding centers,” Pokharel said.
According to the minister, 21 students are staying at the Kharipati holding center and 18 students at the Bode holding center. The children were relocated there from the holding center in Kirtipur.
Pokharel said the government had discussed the option of transferring students to nearby schools, but most preferred to continue studying at their current schools.
He also said the government has provided new textbooks, notebooks, and other educational materials to students whose school supplies were damaged in the recent flooding in Kirtipur.
