Birat Gold Cup: Jawalakhel Youth Club into semi-finals



KATHMANDU: The Jawalakhel Youth Club has entered the semi-finals of the Birat Gold Cup football tournament.

In the quarter-final match held at Shahid Rangshala on Friday, the JYC defeated the departmental team of Nepal Army, the Tribhuvan Army Club by 6-5 goals in sudden death following a penalty shoot-out.

The match went to penalty after it ended scoreless after the scheduled 90 minutes and the added 30 minutes of extra time.

Both teams scored 5-5 in an exciting and competitive tiebreaker. But TAC lost in sudden death when a player failed to score.

The JYC will play the first semi-final match against the home team Biratnagar City March 27.

Eight teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan are participating in the tournament.

The Armed Police Force and Druk Lyul Football Club of Bhutan are facing each other in the third quarter-final match today.
