KATHMANDU: The CPN Maoist Center has objected to the Supreme Court’s order to register the writ petition submitted to the Court against Prime Minister and Maoist Center chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
The Maoist Center issued a statement on Sunday and drew the serious attention of the concerned authority on the issue.
Citing that the issue raised by the writ petitioners is the issue addressed under the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed by the then government, the seven-party alliance, and the Maoist Center, the statement interpreted the writ as ill-intent and against the spirit of the 10-year-long ‘people’s war’ and the peace accord.
Issuing the statement on behalf of the party, General Secretary Dev Gurung clarified that the Maoist Center opposes any activities against the people’s war, the 62/63 movement, and the comprehensive peace accords that made room for the federal republic system.
Claiming that the 10-year Great People’s War, the Second People’s Movement of 2062/63 BS, and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement concluded on its foundation made room for the Interim Constitution, the first and second Constituent Assembly elections, and the federalism, secularism, inclusive proportional and democratic republic basic structure and the pioneering Constitution of Nepal, Gurung objected to the Supreme Court division bench’s order to register the writ against Prime Minister and Maoist Center chairman Dahal.
“The CPN-Maoist Center rejects any activity against achievements, we Strongly condemn such actions”, Gurung’s statement said.
The Maoists have also appealed to the concerned parties to institutionalize political achievements and establish a strong unity in favor of establishing and institutionalizing peace in the country.
Earlier, advocates Gyanendraraj Aran, Kalyan Budhathoki, and others filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding that Dahal should be investigated and prosecuted with criminal charges based on his statement that he would take responsibility for the 5,000 killed during the Maoists-induced conflict. They based their petition on the remarks made by chairman Prachanda in a program held in Tundikhel in Maghi in 2020. However, the Supreme Court administration refused the petition stating that it was of a political nature.
Based on another petition filed by the petitioners in the Supreme Court, the division bench of justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Hari Phuyal gave an order on March 3 to register the petition.
