Govt instructed to protect property of Taragaun Development Committee

KATHMANDU: The International Relations Committee of the Federal Parliament has drawn attention of the stakeholders for the protection and management of the property of the Taragaun Development Committee, which was a disputed issue for long.

Organizing a meeting on Tuesday in Singha Durbar, the Committee held discussions with Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jiban Ram Shrestha and office-bearers of the Taragaun Development Committee, urging stakeholders to protect and manage public property.

The Committee added that the land of the Taragaun Development Committee is leased to the private sector in a very low cost.

On the occasion, Committee’s Chairperson Pabitra Niraula directed the Taragaun Development Committee and stakeholders to work by making a master plan for the long-term management of the public property. She also took exception to the non-implementation of the directives issued repeatedly for the management of the public property.

In the past four years, Niraula recalled that the Committee issued directives for 14 times and seven tourism ministers led the Ministry of Tourism since then.

The Ministry had formed a five-member panel under the Ministry’s joint secretary Hom Prasad Luintel to probe into land leasing issue of the Taragaun Development Committee.

In today’s meeting, Minister Shrestha promised to take decision after the panel submits its report by coming mid-August.
