KATHMANDU: The government has recommended proroguing the current session of the Federal Parliament effective midnight tomorrow.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers has decided to recommend the prorogation and sent a formal letter to the Office of the President. Under the Constitution, the President may prorogue a session of Parliament on the recommendation of the government.
The current session of the Federal Parliament began on May 11, 2026. During the session, Parliament endorsed the government’s annual budget and related legislation. It also approved ordinances issued by the government while Parliament was not in session.
Bills introduced to replace the ordinances, incorporating amendments made during their approval, were subsequently passed by Parliament and authenticated as acts.
The session also saw parliamentary activities including direct question-and-answer sessions with ministers and responses from the government to issues of public concern. However, a direct question-and-answer session with the Prime Minister was not held during the session.
