Vote counting postponed after finding ballot papers sans signature

LALITPUR: Vote counting in Mahankaal rural municipality in Lalitpur district has been postponed after some ballot papers were found without the signature of the election officer.
The votes were cast in the local election held on May 13.

A dispute ensued after such ballot papers were found in course of vote counting. Discussion among election candidates and political parties’ representatives is underway, according to election officer Sushila Gyawali.

Counting of votes will resume after the meeting comes up with the conclusion on the same, Gyawali said.

The rural municipality having 9,012 voters had recorded 7,600 votes (77.96 per cent) cast in the election, informed Gyawali.

Based on the votes counted so far, Nepali Congress’s Ganesh KC is leading to the post of chairperson followed by CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Dolmaya Gole for vice-chair.
