To be administered to children between 12 to 18

KATHMANDU: More than 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccine have arrived in Nepal from America today. US Embassy in Kathmandu informed about it via its official Twitter.

The Pfizer vaccines donated by the US government to Nepal to fight COVID-19 in partnership with COVAX have been brought via a flight of Qatar Airways this morning.

This is the first time the Pfizer is arriving Nepal. Earlier, Nepal had received Astra Zeneca (Covishield), Vero Cell, Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

It should be administered two doses within a month to the people above 12 years of age. Pfizer is 95 percent effective according to a research.

Adolescents above 12 years of age will be vaccinated against COVID-19 in Nepal from November 14 onwards, the Ministry of Health and Population has informed.

Meanwhile, UNICEF has already provided the Nepal government four refrigerators for storing the vaccines as they have to be stored at minus 70 degrees.

Pfizer vaccine will be given from 24 hospitals across the country.

The Nepal government has signed an agreement to procure six million doses of COVID-19 vaccine under COVAX facility to inoculate children below 18 years of age. Earlier, America had provided 1,530,000 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
