KATHMANDU: The death toll from the train-triggered landslides and floods since Sunday has reached 31 across the country.
According to the Home Ministry, 31 people have been killed in different districts till Wednesday morning.
Similarly, 43 people of different districts have gone missing in the disaster—landslide, flood, and inundation, as per the latest details of the Home Ministry.
According to the Chief of Disaster Management Division of the Home Ministry, Humkala Pandey, 22 people were injured in such incidents of natural disaster.
As per the details, seven people were killed in Ilam, six in Panchthar, seven in Doti, six in Dhankuta, two in Sunsari, and one each in Kalikot and Dadeldhura.
Similarly, 43 people of different districts including six in Humla, 23 in Bajhang, and four in Kailali have gone missing in the landslide, added Pandey.
A total of 700 people were rescued so far in various districts. Nineteen districts of the country have been affected due to landslides, floods and inundation read the details.
Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces have witnessed some improvement in the weather as the rain-causing system has shifted towards the eastern part of Nepal from Tuesday night.
There is a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places of Province 1 and at one or two places of Province 2, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces this afternoon.
According to ministry spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokhrel, the floods caused more damage in the far-western states and telephone and mobile phone services have been disrupted.
Communication services have also been affected in Province 1 due to power outage. Due to incessant rains, the substation at Duhabi in Sunsari has been submerged.
Due to which, power supply has been cut off in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur and other districts from Tuesday evening.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has stated that the power supply line has been cut off after the substation was inundation.
Even though the monsoon has already subsided from Nepal, the combined effect of low-pressure system formed around Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India and the westerly wind have been causing rains in Nepal for the past few days.
