NC Special Committee urges Finance Minister to bring policy to prevent youth migration

KATHMANDU: A Special Committee of the Nepali Congress (NC) focused on investment, infrastructure and employment perspectives and long-term sustainable projects has urged Finance Minister Janardan Sharma to bring a policy to prevent the flow of migrant youths to foreign countries and aid in creating entrepreneurship and employment opportunities inside the country.

Officials of the committee, led by NC lawmaker Binod Chaudhary and industrialist Anil Rungta, met Finance Minister Sharma Monday and wished him to do exemplary work such as ending load shedding.

In the meeting, NC Special Committee Coordinator Chaudhary said the government should bring concrete programs to ensure income-generating activities for the people as the country reeled under a health crisis, economic breakdown and was struck by natural calamities one after another.

Chaudhary, who is also an industrialist, said developing countries like Nepal ought to increase internal production and domestic consumption and exports to make the economy sustainable in the long run. He added the income-generating activities would proliferate along with employment opportunities.

The committee, which is running a campaign for the development of entrepreneurship in the country, suggested that as many as 60,000 Nepali youths could become entrepreneurs if all 6,000 branches of banks and financial institutions across the country were to properly implement the provision of providing 10 concessional loans to youths. The committee added even if at least three people were to be employed in one enterprise, then about 200,000 jobs would be created annually.
