KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has decided to abstain from the swearing-in ceremony to take place at Shital Niwas in a while.
According to sources, while UML’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has reached the President’s Office to attend the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Chair Oli has sent the message that he would not join the ceremony.
After Monday’s Supreme Court verdict reinstating the House of Representatives and directing the President’s Office to appoint erstwhile opposition alliance leader Sher Bahadur Deuba within two days.
The opposition alliance comprising Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, UML’s disgruntled Khanal-Nepal faction, Janata Samajbadi Party’s Upendra Yadav faction and Rastriya Janamorcha lawmakers had submitted a petition first at President’s office and after that at Supreme Court presenting NC President Deuba as their candidate for Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.
Along with leader Nepal, ‘Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’ among many others are now at President’s Office for the ceremony.
The swearing-in is delayed after newly appointed PM Deuba demanded that the President’s letter should quote the article of the Constitution based on which he has been made the PM.
