KATHMANDU: The death toll from the August 26 Bhote Koshi flood has risen to 1,377, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
As of Thursday evening, authorities had recovered 1,377 bodies from various areas affected by the disaster. In addition, two people who sustained injuries in the flood died while receiving treatment.
According to data released by the authority, the highest number of bodies recovered from a single area stands at 364. The figures include 228 bodies recovered in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 198 in Nuwakot, 178 in Rasuwa, 77 in Gorkha, 70 in Dhading, and 38 in Tanahun.
Of the recovered bodies, 104 have so far been identified and handed over to their families. The identification of the remaining bodies is ongoing.
The disaster on August 26 has also left 5,130 people missing. Rasuwa has reported the highest number of missing persons, at 1,393. The authority said 1,286 people from other districts are missing in Rasuwa, while Nuwakot has reported 651 local residents and 1,936 people from other districts missing.
