CPN-UML task force to meet today to review election performance

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML task force formed to review the party’s election performance and recommend measures for restructuring is scheduled to meet at 11:00 am today in Chyasal.

The task force was established following the party’s poor showing in the February 21 elections.

According to a party official, the meeting will deliberate on two separate reports. One was prepared by General Secretary Shankar Pokharel following consultations with party leaders and cadres across the country, while the other was prepared by task force coordinator and Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’.

A task force member said Pokharel’s report mainly compiles suggestions and feedback gathered from party leaders and cadres. Thapa’s report, meanwhile, is being interpreted by some leaders as a response to Pokharel’s report or even a charge sheet against the party’s existing leadership and approach.

Party leaders have also discussed endorsing Pokharel’s report while incorporating Thapa’s report as a note of dissent.

After finalizing its report, the task force will submit it for discussion at a CPN-UML secretariat meeting. The report will subsequently be tabled before the central committee for further deliberation, according to the party.
