KATHMANDU: Some three tonnes of trash has been collected from Mount Everest so far. The garbage collected by a 14-member team sent by the government includes cans, bottles, plastic and discarded climbing gear.
“The clean-up campaign will be continued in the coming seasons as well. It is our responsibility to keep our mountains clean,” Deutsche Welle quoted Dandu Raj Ghimire, the head of Nepal’s tourism department as saying.
Mount Everest has suffered increasing pollution over the decades. The campaign is being marked coinciding it with the opening of the spring climbing season.
