UK police arrest 113 climate change activists

LONDON: Police in London arrested around 113 people after climate change activists blocked some of London’s roads including Oxford Circus, Marble Arch and Waterloo Bridge in an effort to force the government to do more to tackle climate change, media reports have said.

Led by British climate group Extinction Rebellion, the group brought parts of central London to a standstill while some stayed overnight for a second day of protest today.

Extinction Rebellion has been demanding the government declare a climate and ecological emergency to ensure reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

London police said there have been 113 arrests in total for breach of Section 14 Notice of the Public Order Act 1986 and obstruction of the highway. (Agencies)
