KATHMANDU: Nepal has not only reported widespread transmission of coronavirus infection but also abrupt death incidents related to the contagious virus.

As many as 12 COVID-10 related deaths were reported on Friday alone. This is so far the highest number of fatalities in a day due to coronavirus infection. According to the Friday data, a coronavirus infected is dying every two hours in Nepal.

At least 81 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in the last 12 days since the beginning of Nepali month Bhadra (17 August). The virus took lives of 11 on Wednesday and nine on Thursday.

On average seven people are losing their lives to coronavirus infection a day from 17-28 August.

The number of deaths from the virus is on the rise every day. According to the Ministry of Health and Population statistics, the mortality rate of the virus was recorded 0.4 percent in the month of Shrawan (mid-June to mid-July) in the country.

It rose to 0.5 percent in the following month. As of August 16, Nepal reported 104 coronavirus related deaths. The score has increased to 195 according to the records as of August 28.

Among the deceased are 51 (26 percent) women and 144 (74 percent) men. According to Health Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageswor Gautam, Parsa has witnessed the death of 33 followed by Kathmandu (18), Morang (16), Dhanusha (13), Bara (12), Banke and Rupandehi (7 each), five each in Kailali, Saptari, Sunsari, Chitwan and Siraha, four each in Sarlahi, Mahottari, Kapilvastu, Makawanpur, Bhaktapur and Kaski, three each in Rautahat, Lalitpur, Gulmi and Sindhupalchowk, two each in Achham, Surkhet, Jhapa, Syangja, Kavre and Dolakha and one each in Dailekh, Dang, Bajura, Palpa, Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Bardiya, Bajhang, Baglung, Tanahun, Nawalprasi-west, Dhading Gorkha, Udayapur, Myagdi and Dolpa due to coronavirus as of 28 August.

As per the state-wise distribution of coronavirus related deaths, the State-2 has the highest number of 78 fatalities followed by Bagmati State (42), State-5 (27), State-1 (24), Sudurpaschim State (10), Gandaki State (10) and Karnali State (4).

Likewise, according to the age-wise distribution of coronavirus-related fatalities, four children (two boys, two girls) below 10 lost their lives followed by five (three female, two male) belonging to age group 11-20 and 12 (four female, eight male) belonging to 21-30. The virus took the lives of 17 (four female, 13 male) in the age class (31-40), 42 (10 female, 32 male) in the age class (41-50), 38 (six female, 32 male) in the age class of (51-60), 40 (14 female, 26 male) in the age class (61-70), 26 (five female, 21 male) in the age class (71-80) and 11 (three female, eight male) in the age above 80.

The number of coronavirus recovery cases stands at 55.5 percent in Nepal. According to spokesperson Gautam, PCR tests are being carried out by 44 laboratories including 33 public and 11 private) in the country.

Total 658,110 people have undergone PCR tests across the country as of Friday. The number of corona infected has reached 36,456 in Nepal, Gautam shared.

Globally the number of infected people has jumped to 24.65 million till August 28. In the South Asian countries, India has witnessed over 3.46 million coronavirus infected cases whereas Pakistan has 295,053 infected, Afghanistan 38,140, Bangladesh 306,794, the Maldives 7,469, Sri Lanka 2,989 and Bhutan 184.

As of now, India has recorded 62,713 fatalities from the deadly virus while Afghanistan saw the deaths of 1,402, Pakistan 6,283, Bangladesh (4,174), the Maldives (28) and Sri Lanka (12). No fatality has been reported from Bhutan. RSS
