Monsoon-triggered floods displace 7,000 in past five days

KATHMANDU: More than 7,000 people have been displaced due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rains across the country in the last five days.

According to a preliminary record of July 9 to July 13, 7,000 people from 1,440 families have been taken to safe areas.

Those displaced are from Rautahat, Sapatari, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Jajarkot, Sindhupalchowk, Maygdi and Jhapa districts.

As many as 2,500 people from 500 houses have been shifted to safer areas in Rautahat district after the floods inundated the district.

Similarly, 32 families have been displaced in Sapari, 400 members of 82 families have been displaced in Sankhuwasabha district.

According to the record, 50 members from 10 families have been displaced in Lamjung and over 1,000 people of 206 families have been displaced in Jajarkot.

Likewise, 85 families in Sindhupalchowk and 400 in Myagdi have been taken to a safe area.

The rescue and relief operation is underway in coordination with the respective District Disaster Management Committee, local levels and Red Cross society, said the Home Ministry.
