PM Balen Shah continues provincial consultations, UML lawmakers demand release of KP Sharma Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah continued his provincial consultations with lawmakers on Tuesday, meeting representatives from Sudurpaschim Province at Singha Durbar.

Following Monday’s discussions with lawmakers from Koshi and Karnali provinces, Tuesday’s dialogue also addressed concerns raised by members of the UML.

During the session, UML lawmakers, including Ain Bahadur Mahara from Bajhang, urged the government to release party chairman KP Sharma Oli, who was arrested last Saturday.

When questioned about Oli’s detention, Prime Minister Shah reportedly refrained from giving any response, listening to the lawmakers’ concerns without comment.

Lawmakers also highlighted systemic issues within the civil service, citing bureaucratic inefficiencies as a source of multiple national challenges. Mahara emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms in the administrative system.

In response, the Prime Minister reportedly attributed the root causes of these issues to both the Nepali Congress and the UML, stating that reform efforts should begin from within these two major parties.
