Supreme Court seeks original case file in Bishnu Paudel habeas corpus petition
The Supreme Court has ordered the submission of the original case file related to an ongoing money laundering case being heard at the Special Court in connection with a habeas corpus petition filed by Bishnu Paudel. A joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the order to produce the original file of the money laundering case in which businessmen Shulabh Agrawal and Deepak Bhatta are defendants at the Special Court. The court said it will proceed with further hearing of the writ petition after reviewing the original case documents.
Foreign Minister Khanal calls for diplomacy to drive Nepal’s economic transformation
Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stressed that Nepal’s diplomacy should make a direct contribution to the country’s economic transformation, saying the government is placing special emphasis on effective and results-oriented development diplomacy. Speaking at the fifth edition of the Prof. Yadunath Khanal Lecture Series, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Khanal said Nepal’s diplomatic missions abroad are increasingly focusing on economic diplomacy, trade promotion, investment, tourism, technology partnerships, and expanding market access. “Ultimately, foreign policy must serve the welfare, aspirations and prosperity of the people,” he said.
Ministry seeks clarification from four civil servants residing abroad without reporting to duty
The Ministry of Land Management, Co-operatives, Federal Affairs & General Administration has sought clarification from four civil servants who allegedly remained abroad after obtaining foreign residency permits and failed to return to their assigned offices following the expiry of their approved leave. In a public notice, the ministry said legal action had been initiated against the employees after it found they had continued living overseas instead of resuming their official duties. According to the notice, the employees had obtained temporary residence permits, permanent residence permits, or Diversity Visa (DV) status while still serving in the civil service.
Nepal tea exports to India resume after two-month disruption
Nepal’s tea industry has received a much-needed boost after exports to India resumed following nearly two months of disruption caused by Indian quality testing requirements. With the export bottleneck removed, tea that had been stockpiled at factories is now being shipped to the Indian market, while producers have also begun receiving new orders. Exports resumed through the Kakarbhitta–Panitanki border crossing after the Indian authorities revised their quality control procedures, replacing mandatory testing of every shipment with a risk-based inspection system. Under the new arrangement, only one out of every five consignments exported from Nepal will undergo sample testing.
Oli says violence has been given legitimacy, criticizes political instability
KP Sharma Oli, Chair of the CPN-UML, has claimed that incidents of vandalism, violence, killings and looting that took place on September 8 and 9, 2025, have been given legitimacy. Speaking at the national assembly of the Nepal Confederation of Sports in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Oli said that certain forces, unable to bring change through constitutional means, had resorted to unconstitutional activities including destruction, violence and unrest in an attempt to topple the government, and that such actions were now being legitimized. He said efforts were made to rebuild the economy after the devastation caused by earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to advance the education, health and sports sectors, but claimed those efforts were not acceptable to some groups.
RSP to administer oath to newly elected central committee on Wednesday
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will administer the oath of office to its newly elected central committee members and office bearers on Wednesday following the party’s first general convention. According to RSP leader Manish Jha, the oath-taking ceremony for the party’s 99 newly elected central committee members will take place at 11:00 am at the party’s central office. Assistant General Secretary Nisha Dangi said six newly elected office bearers will also be sworn in immediately after the central committee members.
Minister Yadav’s strict order leads to recovery of Rs 425 million industrial dues
Nearly Rs 425 million in long-pending rent arrears from industrial estates have been recovered within just two weeks following a strict directive from Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav. Minister Yadav had instructed the Industrial Districts Management Limited (IDML) to immediately collect outstanding dues from industries and offices that had been delaying rent payments for years. Acting on the directive, the authority has so far collected Rs 425.43 million in arrears, according to the company. According to IDML General Manager Padam Oli, some industries had not paid rent since as far back as 1988, resulting in long-standing dues. He said the authority recently published a public notice asking around 635 industries and offices to clear their arrears, after which many began settling their payments.
Monsoon raises risk of infectious diseases across Nepal as over 1,600 cases reported
Health experts have warned of a growing risk of infectious diseases across Nepal as rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and the onset of the monsoon contribute to a seasonal increase in illnesses. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,655 cases of various communicable diseases and health conditions have been recorded across the country. The latest surveillance data show that diarrhoeal disease remains the biggest public health concern, accounting for 720 reported cases. The EDCD also recorded 488 cases of influenza-like illness, 339 cases of severe acute respiratory infection, 53 dengue infections, 19 scrub typhus cases, 18 cases of fever with rash, nine cases of fever with jaundice, and five confirmed influenza cases.
Private sector completes Nepal’s first 220 kV transmission line
Nepal’s private sector has completed the country’s first high-capacity 220 kV transmission line, marking a significant milestone in the development of the national power transmission network. The 28-kilometre Markichowk–Bharatpur section of the 220 kV Marsyangdi Corridor Transmission Line, which had remained stalled for seven years, was handed over by the Nepal Electricity Authority to the private sector for construction. The project was completed in around one and a half years through the joint initiative of seven private hydropower developers. According to Uttam Blon Lama, senior vice-president of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal, the achievement has laid the foundation for greater private-sector participation in the construction and operation of transmission infrastructure in the future.
Susta residents arrive in Kathmandu demanding citizenship and land ownership, citing harassment by Indian security forces
Residents from Susta in Nawalparasi, have arrived in Kathmandu, raising concerns over border-related issues and alleged difficulties faced from Indian security personnel, and demanding citizenship certificates and land ownership documents. The group of locals reached the federal capital following recent public remarks made by the Prime Minister regarding the border issue, which were followed by statements from a minister. Soon after these developments, the residents said they experienced increased hardship and uncertainty in their daily lives, prompting them to come to Kathmandu to seek government attention.
Gold price falls by Rs 4,500 per tola
The price of gold has decreased in the Nepali market, while silver has also dropped, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. On Monday, the price of gold fell by Rs 4,500 per tola, while silver declined by Rs 25 per tola. With the latest adjustment, gold is being traded at Rs 277,900 per tola. Silver is currently being traded at Rs 4,285 per tola.
22 injured as passenger bus overturns on Hulaki Highway in Kapilvastu
At least 22 people were injured after a passenger bus overturned on the Postal Highway in Kapilvastu on Monday. The accident occurred at Gaidahawa in Ward No. 2 of Maharajgunj Municipality when a Shivapuri Luxury Coach bus, bearing registration number Sudurpashchim Province 01-001 Kha 3721, lost control, crashed into a road divider, and overturned. The bus was traveling from Dhangadhi to Kathmandu with 46 people on board, including the driver. Among the injured is the driver, 42-year-old Hari Singh Mahara of Dhangadhi, Kailali, along with passengers from various districts of Sudurpashchim Province and Chitwan.
